Our Motivation
Products such as glasses, hearing aids or wheelchairs – known as assistive technologies (AT) –and the professional workforce and services that provide them are essential for healthy, productive, independent and dignified lives.
So much so, that they are a right enshrined in the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Globally, an estimated 80 million people are entitled to a wheelchair.
But in countries like Kenya, India, Malawi and Uganda, less than 10% of people who are entitled to a wheelchair actually have one.
Statistics like that drive the work we do at Motivation Africa.
What we stand for
We believe mobility is the first step toward dignity and opportunity. That’s why at the heart of our work is user-centred wheelchair service provision, rooted in the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) eight-step guidelines. We don’t just distribute wheelchairs; we ensure they’re custom-fitted, terrain-appropriate, and part of a broader support ecosystem.
But our work doesn’t stop at mobility.
We build the confidence, skills and community connections that enable disabled people to live full, independent lives, through peer training, sports inclusion, healthy living education, and caregiver support.
We also work to dismantle the social and structural barriers that lead to exclusion. Because when people with disabilities thrive, communities do too.
